More signs al Qaeda in Mali orchestrated Algeria attack

“The Obama Administration now believes the attack and hostage-taking at a natural gas plant in Algeria last week is the work of al Qaeda operatives based out of northern Mali.

U.S. officials say al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) was behind the attack and may also have operated a communications network from northern Mali. Despite the recent French intervention, large areas of Mali remain in the hands of jihadist groups.”

France in the firing line of ‘new jihad’

“France is enemy number one for the jihadists in North Africa, according to one of the country’s leading counter-terrorist judges.

Marc Trevidic told the BBC that jihadists had already been heading out to Mali and that French intervention would heighten the risk of lone wolf attacks in France.

However, he said the deployment of the French military was necessary to counter the dangers from Mali falling into the hands of extremists.”

Deadly blast in Pakistan’s Quetta

“An explosion has ripped through a crowded area of the Pakistani city of Quetta in Balochistan province, killing at least 11 people, police have said.

The blast was caused by a bomb, and injured a further 27 people, the south-western city’s police chief said.”

Car explosion in Israeli city of Tel Aviv

Suicide attack kills 6 at Bannu police station, TTP claims responsibility

“Suicide bombers attacked a police station on Monday, killing six people in the outskirts of northwestern town Bannu near the militant stronghold of North Waziristan, officials said. The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack.
Two bombers blew themselves up outside the police station in Kaki, 13 kilometres southwest of Bannu. A third gunman also took part, but he escaped after the attack, the officials said.”

“As U.S. lawmakers took closed door testimony Friday from former CIA Director David Petraeus on what he said was ‘significant terrorist involvement’ in the Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. consulate in Libya, two individuals — one a United States citizen who allegedly provided support to a foreign terrorist organization, the other wanted for his alleged role in the overseas kidnapping of an American — were added this week to the FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorists list.

In fact they are the agency’s two most wanted terrorists in the world. The two men are identified as Omar Shafik Hammami and Raddulan Sahiron.”

“Two suicide bombers attacked a restaurant in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu on Saturday, wounding several people, police said, and killing one victim, according to a witness.

‘There were two suicide bombers who attacked the Village restaurant. The two of them have died and other people who stayed in the place were injured. We are still investigating the casualties,’ said Abdi Adan, a Somali police officer.

West Colombia ‘FARC attack’ kills 2, injures at least 17

“A suspected attack by Colombia’s largest insurgency group FARC has killed two people and injured at least 17 more, local media reported Wednesday.

A grenade blast in the town of Pradera, located in the southwestern Valle de Cauca department, has reportedly left two people dead and 31 injured, including 14 minors.”

“Bombings in and around Baghdad have killed at least 15 people, just a day after a wave of attacks during the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha resulted in Iraq’s highest death toll this month.

The latest violence on Sunday targeted Shia Muslims, much like the shootings and bombings a day earlier, with the spate of attacks shattering a relative calm despite announcements by authorities that they would boost security during the four-day Eid break which began on Friday.”
